With the surging popularity of dot tv names, it should come as no surprise that the number of registered dot tv names is approaching half a million (500,000).  At the moment, DomainWorldwide.com is reporting that 473,168 dot tv names have been registered.  Out of all domain extensions, .tv ranks 11th, but it could easily increase in rank to…

number 6 in the next two years if the extension continues to receive increased exposure despite the increased cost of a non-premium dot tv name as compared to similar names in other extensions.  Below is a table of the top 20.  Most notable are the domain name extensions that dot tv ranks higher than in terms of number of registrations, including Canada (.CA), United States (.US).  Given the fact that .tv may still be considered an infant extension and its potential for global brandability, I imagine it will not be long before dot tv dethrones .INFO as the fifth ranked extension behind .ORG, which has 3 times more registrations than .INFO, which has 828,223 registered domain names.

Interestingly, if you owned 2,000 dot com domain names, then you own less than one hundredth of 1% of the registered dot com names whereas if you owned 2,000 dot tv names, then you own less than half of 1% of the total registered dot tv names.
