I had the pleasure to be able to get an interview with Dottie Gruhler, a .tv domain name owner, whose unbridled enthusiasm for the .tv extension is so plain to see, it makes me question my own loyalty to .tv!!
The reason for the interview is so that all our Allthings.TV audience can be made aware of an upcoming and exclusive .tv extension auction.
Unlike the recent TRAFFIC conference in New York which was heavily slanted towards traffic domains, this auction is all about potential – unlimited potential in fact.......
So tell me Dottie,
I understand that you and Raymond Hackney, moderator of the .tv forum on Namepros, will be starting a new auction for those interesting in buying and selling names that use the .tv extension.
First off, is it safe to say that you have an interest in the .tv extension?
A: I am very taken with the .tv extension. It will easily take on the sheath of success. You can make .tv your own, and that’s what people want. From large corporations to individuals- .TV is robust and understood. It is taking the web to the next level.
Can you tell me what led to the creation of this auction?
A: Conviction. I feel very strongly about .tv. It is a personal tld, yet it is amazingly universal. With so many incredible names on the block, buyers will feel as if Christmas came just a bit early this year.
Do you believe that this is the only auction right now out there that focuses purely on the .tv extension?
A: I believe so. I have yet to find another at this time, on this scale.
What dates will the auction take place? And what prompted you to choose those dates?
A: The auction runs from August 6th - August 10th. They are daily, live, online auctions. This time of the year made the most sense, working in and around other highly anticipated auctions.
What is the submission deadline for names and to whom can they be sent?
A: Names must be submitted by July 9th and can be submitted at the website.
What is the cost of submission? Do you take a percentage of the sales price?
A: We do NOT take a percentage of the sale. We charge an entry fee- a $10.00 charge per 10 name block accepted.
How much advertising are you doing to attract end users?
A: We are getting the word out in several ways- other domain forums, domain news sources, press release resources, word of mouth, etc...
Where do people go to participate in the auction?
A: The auctions will be held at AuctionSite.tv
I understand that there may also be a silent auction depending on the amount of names submitted. Can you go into a little detail as to the difference between a live auction and a silent auction for those who are new to domaining?
A: The live auction is held in a chatroom in which the auctioneer begins to present names in the chat, and the bids are live, online. This has proven to be very successful. A silent auction is more of a listing set up on webpages, in which you can place a bid. We may or may not be utilizing the silent auction aspect.
Who will be running the actual auction itself?
A: My business partner Ray will be putting his vast experience to work as the master auctioneer.
Do you have any expectations as to the success of this auction?
A: We are hoping for some signifigant sales, but more-so, we are working towards extending the reach for .tv. This auction is the first of many core projects to share the vitality .tv brings to the domainer table.
Is this a one off auction or do you plan more in the near future?
A: We set up this site so that we could run future .tv auctions.
Thank you very much Dottie and of course Allthings.tv wishes you and potential bidders the very best of luck.

Great idea Dottie and Ray well done to both of you,
its good to see you guys taking the initiative and promoting the .TV extension yourselves as opposed to waiting for larger companies to do it.
I wish you well in this and any future projects you undertake.
Hey Meeks,
There’s no doubting the power of numbers, each and every person that develops and or promotes the extension is doing their bit to make the extension more meaningful and attractive to the end user.
James,
Excellent interview! Every interview you guys do increases my excitement about .tv. .TV is on the rise and we will see a mad rush over the next 5 years as the online video tools become better and more easily accessible.
Thankyou William,
I am glad you enjoyed it!!
