After vacation, I spent some time to provide my thoughts on Mindwrecker’s domains: dissertation.tv and dissertations.tv. Do you agree or disagree...what are your thoughts?
I value your comments and understand why you might feel the current value is inaccurate.
Please allow me to clarify the valuation given in the appraisal:
Developers value keyword domains more than domain name speculators. The value I gave these domains is based on a sale to a party seeking to develop them rather than a third party domain speculator seeking to triple his money.
Moreover, the domains are not labeled premium domains under the VeriSign pricing structure, so the yearly renewal cost of ~$25 is favorable; had these names been caught in the premium pricing net and carried a high yearly renewal fee, then there would be reason to adjust the value I gave downward.
Currently, few publicized acquisitions (in which buyer seeks to develop the domain being acquired) suggest that I overestimated the value of these domains. While I am by definition biased because I own .tv domain names, I did my best to provide the owner with a good faith appraisal. In fact, I felt as though I undervalued them given that the growth and adoption of .tv remains in its infancy.
If these domains are not worth $15,000, which represents a small cost to the buyer I described, then we are all in trouble. Nevertheless, please share your reasons for why you don’t believe “we are anywhere near that [valuation] yet” and expand upon why you disagree with the “current value appraisal” I gave to these domains.
If you can articulate those reasons, your initial comment will be that much more meaningful to the allthings readership.
Hey, no problem Kevin.....am just getting myself sorted for a trip to New York this evening, so do not have the time to go into a detailed response...but will respond within a few days.....
To an end user who has deep pockets and wants this name at any cost...u can sell it for a million.......
Problem is most end users are not that inclined to part with a million...Alot will do their research into .tv sales and see what the top sales on DN Journal ....Very few sales this year have reached 15k.....those that have have mostly been much much stronger names than dissertation/s, which is a very small niche compared to those sold to date…
To a reseller, I dont see this one exceeding $500 at the very most.....to an end user 5k at the very most.....
Please keep and bear in mind...this is JUST MY OPINION.....I wish I could agree with you that it is worth 15k....that would give EDUCATION.TV a current value of at least $500,000....
We are not there yet...nor will we be for some years to come....like 3 years at the very least.....
Well, I still would like more facts that support your opinion.
The only fact that you provided was “Very few sales this year have reached 15k.”
That tells very little to me and everyone else.
In fact, you, yourself, turned down multiple offers in the $XX,XXX region. How many other people have turned down similar offers for their .tv names? Are you ignoring these facts?
Does this mean that “We are not there yet?” Give me more facts and your opinion might be somewhat persuasive. Otherwise, its an opinion formed in a vacuum.
DNJournal only displays public information. Do you think there have been more public sales greater than 15k or more private sales for more than 15k? I would guess a significant number of sales over 15k are conducted in private with a non-disclosure binding both parties, since transactions of that size are between sophisticated parties who realize the importance of maintaining the details of their transaction out of the public domain. The reason? If someone knows what you paid for something, then theoretically it can put you in weaker bargaining position.
Moreover, resellers look at past sales to determine the lowest possible amount they can offer for a domain. They can hardly be relied on to determine a brand’s potential value.
How can we determine that the sales on DNJournal do not reflect sales between sellers and people seeking to resell the name in the future? The reality is that we do not know whether the buyer was a reseller or a true developer, i.e., someone willing to invest substantial sums of money developing and marketing the domain. That kind of developer is the one I envision paying the amount I provided in the appraisal.
While I realize this domain duo doe not have the potential of cash.tv, which carried a $5,000/year renewal, the name caters to a niche market, is the best name for that market, and only carries a $25/renewal cost.
The $5,000 price you gave the pair of domains would be the minimum I would accept if I was looking for a quick sale to a reseller.
But send me some more facts (persuasive ones this time please) and I am willing to reconsider my position.
Dont get too hung up on it.....I did say JMO......I buy and sell and appraise with a gut feeling.....thats my take on its value on a very good day......I have no data whatsoever to back it up......I believe that BEER,TV is worth at least 20 x what dissertation is worth, I would not give it a 300k current day appraisal.......it will be very interesting to see how much you appraise that one for..!!
Best of luck and certainly you give by far the most extensive appraisals I have seen on .tv names......
stunning amount of information on an appraisal.even for a niche - i agree every thing except tha all important current value appraisal.
i do not think we are anywhere near that yet.....JMO
