Combining select domain names with TV and print ads brings maximum ROI to advertisers

You may have noticed recently the increase in websites associated with your favorite TV or print ads. This is not a fluke and the trend is certain to continue according to one Internet marketing expert.

Scott Alliy President of eComInvestments.com a domain name brokerage often wonders why the tremendous one two punch advertising approach has not been used more up until now.

Scott claims that obtaining domain names containing niche phrases can extend the benefits and life span of any print or TV marketing campaign well beyond the number of days the ads actually are shown publicly.

In a wrap up of the recent HostingCon 2007 event, I discovered this passage:

In the presentation, the CEO and chairman of Demand Media encouraged the capacity crowd to rethink their approach to how they market hosting solutions to businesses and individuals.  Using his ChannelMe.tv venture as a focal example, Rosenblatt argued that Web hosts should sell the overall experience of hosted solutions instead of the more technical concept of hosting itself.

I am aware that Go Daddy representatives were at this event and probably took Richard’s words seriously…

I learned that a new legal article related to .tv and other ccTLDs was recently published or made available on http://www.ibls.com.  However, the article is only available to members so I thought I would post it here if you decide to become a member (and if you want to share it with me smile). 

The description of the article is:

Companies used to be able to register their domain name in the “.com” hierarchy without concern for other “top-level domains.” A large number of countries however have been using their “country-code” domain names for example Tuvalu’s “.tv”. Country codes should be considered and how online businesses and electronic commerce should react to them.

WHIR TV recently interviewed Richard, but the site only produced a transcript because the audio had some problems.  The interview covered Richard’s history, what Demand Media does, and where its going as a social media company.  WHIR TV described what Demand Media does as clever because it is essentially selling Web hosting and domaining in the form of a social media site for consumers.

As video-sharing sites such as YouTube are gaining popularity all over the world, the `.tv’ domain is drawing more attention.

[D]ozens of home-grown video-sharing and Internet broadcasting sites...are using the ``.tv’’ domain as it is easily related to television or video.

According to Verisign, the operator of the `.tv’ domain, about 70 percent of its users wanted to extend their contracts, which is significantly higher than 60 percent of `.com’ users or 10 percent of `.net’ owners.

A total of 1,460 new `.tv’ domains were registered between January and July this year, up from 483 registrations in the same period last year.

These are quotes I picked up from a Korean newspaper, the full text and link can be found after the jump.

You drop .tv pricing by over 75% and the number of registrations increase.  No surprise, right?

Some interesting information from the Go Daddy press release that is found after the jump:

-100 million people starting to watch TV online

-5.3 billion monthly video streams will be delivered to US Internet users

-‘TV’ is one of the most recognized two-letter symbols in the world

Some feel Frank is a .com diehard since he refuses to acknowledge the branding power of .tv.  After all, would Frank’s gazillion dollar .com portfolio be worth the same amount if he and other influential .com investors openly and objectively discussed the merits of .tv...you decide.
